THE MENOMINEE HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM WENT UNDEFEATED IN THE REGULAR SEASON AND ALL FIVE STARTERS RECEIVED POST-SEASON RECOGNITION FROM THE GREAT NORTHERN CONFERENCE. ALL FIVE ARE JUNIORS.
EMMA ANDERSON, WHO AVERAGED 18 POINTS AND ALMOST 9 REBOUNDS PER GAME IN CONFERENCE PLAY WAS NAMED THE GNC PLAYER OF THE YEAR.
ERIN BARRETTE MADE FIRST TEAM, JENNA NOLDE SECOND TEAM AND JOSIE HOFER AND MAKENZIE WELLNER WERE HONORABLE MENTION.

BARRETTE AVERAGED 14 POINTS AND NEARLY 3 STEALS PER GAME IN THE GNC.

MARINETTE HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR KAITLYN KITZINGER HAS BEEN NAMED FIRST TEAM ALL-NORTHEASTERN CONFERENCE IN GIRLS BASKETBALL. KITZINGER BECAME MARINETTE’S ALL-TIME LEADING SCORER IN GIRLS BASKETBALL AND LED THE TEAM IN VIRTUALLY EVERY CATEGORY THIS PAST SEASON. KITZINGER AVERAGED 17.5 POINTS PER GAME, 6.5 REBOUNDS, 4.2 ASSISTS AND 4.6 STEALS PER GAME.

THE 82ND ANNUAL GOLD MEDAL CLASSIC INDEPENDENT BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED . THE TOURNEY WAS SCHEDULED FOR MARCH 19TH THROUGH THE 29TH IN HERMANSVILLE. THE NEW DATES ARE APRIL 16TH THROUGH THE 26TH.

DIVISION 5 SECTIONAL SEMI-FINALS
WAUSAUKEE LOST A HEARTBREAKER 68-67 TO LAONA-WABENO AT ELCHO HIGH SCHOOL. THE RANGERS LED BY 4 POINTS WITH 15 SECONDS TO PLAY BUT MIKE STAMPER OF THE REBELS HIT A THREE POINTER TO MAKE IT A ONE POINT GAME. AFTER A RANGERS FREE THROW STAMPER BANKED IN A THREE POINTER WITH 5 SECONDS TO PLAY. THE RANGERS MISSED A SHOT AT THE BUZZER. STAMPER LED THE REBELS WITH 21 POINTS. HAYDEN RENIKOW HAD A GAME-HIGH 29 POINTS FOR THE RANGERS.
THE GAME WAS PLAYED IN FRONT OF A LIMITED NUMBER OF FANS DUE TO THE CORONAVIRUS GLOBAL PANDEMIC.

THE MICHIGAN HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION HAS SUSPENDED ALL POST-SEASON EVENTS.

THE COLEMAN COUGARS WRESTLING TEAM WON THE DIVISION 3 STATE CHAMPIONSHIP ON SATURDAY NIGHT IN DRAMATIC FASHION EDGING FENNIMORE 27-26 AT THE KOHL CENTER IN MADISON. AFTER THE FINAL MATCH, THE TWO TEAMS WERE TIED AT 26 AND COLEMAN GOT THE TIE-BREAKER ON “MOST TOTAL FIRST POINTS SCORED” TO CLAIM ITS FIRST STATE TITLE SINCE 2014 AND THE SIXTH STATE TITLE UNDER HEAD COACH KEVIN CASPER.
