MARINETTE HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION MEETING

EARLIER THIS WEEK THE MARINETTE HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION MET TO DISCUSS VARIOUS ITEMS, AMONG WHICH WAS THE PRESERVATION OF THE FOREST HOME CEMETERY CHAPEL. CURRENTLY THE COMMISSION IS SHOPPING FOR BIDS ON LABOR AND MATERIALS BEFORE APPROVING THE PROJECT. ALSO UP FOR DISCUSSION WERE THE PROPOSED SIGNS FOR THE RIVERSIDE AVENUE HISTORIC DISTRICT TO BE INSTALLED AT BOTH ENDS OF THE ROUTE, THOUGH AT THIS JUNCTURE THE TYPE OF POLES REQUIRED FOR THE SIGNS IS IN NEED OF CLARIFICATION. ONCE FINAL DESIGNS ARE CONFIRMED, THE PROJECT WILL MOVE FORWARD. ALSO ADDRESSED WAS A PROJECT FOR IDENTIFYING AND PRESERVING VARIOUS CITY CULTURAL OBJECTS, AND WHO MIGHT BE COMMISSIONED TO MAINTAIN THEM, SUCH AS THE HISTORIC MURAL, SCULPTURES, THE STEPHENSON BRONZE, THE MARKER FOR THE FIRST SAWMILL SITE, AND THE QUEEN MARINETTE MONUMENT. THE HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION MEETS NEXT ON OCTOBER SECOND.
