MARINETTE LAW ENFORCEMENT MEETING

DURING MONDAY’S LAW ENFORCEMENT MEETING, PROGRESS WAS ANNOUNCED IN STAFFING AND REDUCTION OF INMATE OVERCROWDING. STAFF IS WITHIN ONE POSITION OF BEING FILLED AND INMATE POPULATION WAS ABOUT 108 IN AUGUST, 20 LESS THAN AUGUST OF LAST YEAR. A NEW CORRECTIONS OFFICER HIRE IS IN STAGE 2 TRAINING, AND INTERVIEWS WILL HAPPEN SOON TO FILL ANOTHER POSITION. ONE OF THE REASONS FOR THE JAIL STAFFING PROCESS IMPROVING COULD BE THE COUNTY BOARD’S APPROVAL OF THE CARLSON-DETTMANN WAGE STUDY EARLIER THIS YEAR THAT IMPROVED THE PAY OF SEVERAL COUNTY POSITIONS. REPAIRS TO & UPGRADES OF THE FLOORS IN TWO PODS ALSO UNDERWAY. ADDITIONALLY DISCUSSED AND MOVED FORWARD IN THE PROCESS IS A NEW DISPATCH CENTER, AS THREE NEW HIRES ARE IN TRAINING CURRENTLY, AS WELL AS IMPROVEMENTS AND BUDGETS FOR EMS AND VIDEO VISITATION SYSTEMS. THE PORT SECURITY GRANT CONSIDERATION HAS BEEN RESTRUCTURED AND WILL BE REPROPOSED NEXT YEAR.
