Adopt-a-Highway Program Needs Volunteers

While the melting snow is a welcome sight, it’s also revealing a winter’s worth of litter along state highways. The Wisconsin DOT is asking residents to consider taking part in their Adopt-a-Highway program to clean up some of the debris. Volunteers are assigned a two-mile segment of state highway to clean twice annually and all of the equipment, including safety vests, highway worker signs, training videos, and trash bags, are provided by WisDOT. Groups will also be recognized for their work by two permanent signs placed along the roadway. More than four-thousand miles of state highway are available for adoption. Those interested can learn more by visiting the WisDOT website. Last year, Adopt-a-Highway groups cleared more than 165-tons of trash and recyclables.
