Annual Fall Health Fair Highlights “The Caregiver in You”
10/04/2019- The number of unpaid caregivers in Marinette and Menominee Counties is on the rise, but fortunately, so are the resources available to these individuals and the homebound residents they assist. An event hosted by Respite Care of Marinette and Menominee Counties next week brings those services together in a one-stop-shop for caregivers and their loved ones. Judy Bramschreiber sits on the Respite Care board and says the annual Health Fair on October 10th is an important outlet for caregivers to help prevent feelings of isolation or burn out.
“That was our purpose: to educate people in the community who are caregivers. It is a frustrating and lonely life when they have no idea where they can go, who they can reach out to.”
In addition to these vendors, the Health Fair also features guest speakers and keynote speaker Gail Renderman. Respite Care Director Ann Holmquist says they’ll cover a wide range of issues and topics pertaining to caregivers.
“We will be having speakers from UPCAP and ADRC initially and we will be discussing elder abuse. Teresa (West) is going to be talking, from the Dementia-Friendly group, on being a caregiver for someone with dementia. And then Unity Hospice is there and they’re going to be doing a presentation on taking care of a loved one during hospice.”
The Health Fair will be held at the Riverside Country Club in Menominee and runs from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. There’s no cost to attend and pre-registration can be completed by calling 906-863-4801.
