BAMC CEO Talks Ownership Change
02/08/2019- There have been plenty of questions surrounding the change of ownership at Bay Area Medical Center since the move was announced a little over two weeks ago. BAMC’s current minority partner, Advocate Aurora Health, will take on full ownership of the hospital, which will now come to be known as Aurora Medical Center- Bay Area. BAMC President and CEO Ed Harding says the agreement with Advocate Aurora comes at a time when hospitals throughout the region and nationwide struggle with financial stability, but assures the decision was not made as a bail-out for BAMC.
For years, BAMC has prided themselves as a community healthcare provider, but the new ownership means the hospital will now fall under the umbrella of the tenth largest non-profit health system in the U.S. However, Harding says that sense of community will be maintained by an advisory committee comprised of local business and civic leaders that will aid in developing hospital policies and initiatives.
The agreement with Advocate Aurora Health to assume full ownership of BAMC is expected to be complete by mid-year, pending regulatory approval.
