Board Rescinds Decision on PA’s Office Report
02/27/2019- Menominee County is back-tracking on their decision to require a formal report from the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office on their over-500 case backlog. Just two weeks ago, the County Board approved a resolution requesting a document from the P-A’s office within 21 days detailing the cases that were still awaiting review and a plan to address the issue moving forward. However, last night, the board unanimously rescinded that resolution. County Administrator Jason Carviou says the board’s decision is about making better use of time and resources.
The PA’s Office backlog is largely attributed to a staffing shortage coupled with an increase in felony filings in recent years. Carviou says the County will continue to work with the Prosecuting Attorney to craft a solution to the problem, and that could ultimately involve requesting additional resources from the state.
