Body Cameras Not Likely for Local Deputies
03/01/2019- Law enforcement agencies nationwide are outfitting their officers with body cameras, but it’s not something the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office is planning on doing anytime soon. During his 2018 Annual Report delivered to the Board of Supervisors this week, Sheriff Jerry Sauve said it’s his job to try to minimize costs and he’s placed the purchase of body cams pretty low on his list of priorities.
Sauve says before the department even considers body cameras, he wants to make sure every squad car is equipped with a dash cam, which run about $4000 apiece. He’d also like to see the County eventually acquire their own armored tactical vehicle, rather than relying on the ones coming out of Rhinelander or Brown County in an emergency.
