07/16/2019- City roads and infrastructure was back on the agenda in front of Menominee City Council Monday night. Coleman Engineering presented a conceptual plan to the Council proposing three separate, but related projects for improvements to city water, sewer, and streets. A road project would utilize about $936000 of millage funds and includes portions of 12th, 16th, 23rd, 26th and 36th Avenues and 1st, 11th and 23rd Streets. The other plans involved replacing underground utility lines in other parts of the city, as well as reconstructing the roadways above them. The $3.4-million the city has available from a 2014 bond does not cover all the work suggested and council will have to refine their priorities and find additional funding sources, but council member Doug Robinson says Coleman should get to work the critical road projects.
Coleman representatives did note material costs are increasing by about 10%  annually, so it’s in the City’s best interest to get the work done as soon as possible. The firm will begin to move forward with the road repair projects while the City further considers the utility and reconstruction proposals and available funding.
