Community Prepares for Wall That Heals
08/24/2018- A community comes together to honor the sacrifices of those that served in the Vietnam war. The Wall that Heals, a 3/4 scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C., will be on display in Crivitz next week. Organizers have been working for months to ensure this event garners the recognition it deserves, and Crivitz Village President John Deschane says that recognition begins before the Wall even reaches Crivitz. A caravan escort begins at the Menominee VFW at 5:00 PM next Tuesday, August 28th, and travels through Marinette, Peshtigo, Coleman, and Pound before arriving in Crivitz for a Welcome Parade at 6:00 PM. Deschane hopes both spectators and motorists will join in to show their support.
The Wall will be open to the public 24 hours a day beginning at 9:00 AM Thursday. Beyond the Wall itself, the display also includes a mobile education center and that’s where visitors can learn more about the local residents that served in the war.
Featured speakers throughout the weekend include Governor Scott Walker, Representative Jeff Mursau, and Wisconsin Secretary of Veterans Affairs, David Zimmerman. The Wall that Heals will be on display in Crivitz through Sunday, September 2nd. A detailed schedule of events is available online at crivitz.com.
