Council Approves Rezoning Request for NEWCAP Project
NEWCAP is another step closer to making their proposed Trolley Station housing development on Main Street in Marinette a reality. Tuesday, the city’s common council approved adopting an amendment to the City of Marinette Comprehensive Plan, as well as an ordinance rezoning the properties being eyed- the former Colonial Building Property, the former Contamone Parcel, and the former Bay Area Medical Center Parking Lot- to a multi-family residential district designation to allow the organization to move forward with their plan. While many of the council members agreed an increase in affordable housing and the redevelopment of Marinette’s downtown district are needed, Alderperson Peter Noppenberg wants to make sure the proposed project doesn’t make existing issues like downtown parking worse.
NEWCAP is seeking to construct a 45-unit workforce housing development on the once-blighted lots. The project is estimated to cost around $7.7-million.
