County Approves Marketing/Tourism Contract
It looks like Marinette County will move forward in contracting with the City of Marinette for tourism and marketing services, but not everyone is convinced they county is getting their money’s worth. The Board of Supervisors was asked Tuesday to approved entering into an agreement with the City for a shared marketing/tourism director for a minimum of one year at a cost not to exceed 90-thousand dollars. This person will be a City employee and will be responsible for promoting both Marinette County and the City of Marinette and its new convention center. Supervisor Ginger Deschane says there’s nothing in writing to guarantee how much time the employee will give the county.
However, County Board Chair Mark Anderson says until the Marinette County Association for Business and Industry is ready to take on the county’s tourism needs, there are few other options available.
A motion to approve the contract with the City was passed on a 20-to-5 vote. Marinette is in the early stages of reviewing candidates for the marketing/tourism director position.
