County Temporarily Bars Metallic Mines
While the fate of the proposed Menominee County mine remains to be seen, on the other side of the river, Marinette County has also taken up the topic of metallic mining. At a meeting Monday, the county’s Land Information Committee approved a temporary moratorium on the permitting and/or development of metallic mines. Land Information Director Greg Cleereman says the 18-month suspension serves as a place-holder until the county can develop and present an official ordinance regulating such operations. Committee member Fred Meintz was the only dissenting vote. The item now moves on for consideration by the full county board.
