10/15/2018- The Wisconsin DNR will perform targeted Chronic Wasting Disease surveillance in northern Marinette County this hunting season. DNR staff will be collecting samples from a 319-square-mile area that encompasses northwest Marinette, southern Florence, and northeast Forest Counties in response to the discovery of CWD in a captive deer at Wild Rivers Whitetails in Goodman. Hunters are being encouraged to submit adult deer harvested in the area for testing. DNR staff have set up several cooperating stations and self-service CWD sampling kiosks located in Armstrong Creek, Fence, Dunbar, Laona and Crandon. Hunters can find sampling locations and a detailed map of the surveillance area at dnr.wi.gov, keywords “CWD sampling.” In addition to voluntary sampling, the DNR is offering CWD Surveillance Permits to private landowners near the Goodman deer farm for the harvest of adult deer. Landowners with at least 5 contiguous acres within two miles of this location may apply for a permit from local DNR wildlife staff.
