Drivers Reminded to Watch for Pavement Buckling

PavementBuckling.jpg

07/01/2019- Construction work isn’t the only thing on the road making summertime travel more difficult. The Wisconsin DOT says as it heats up, motorists should be alert for the potential of pavement buckling. Buckling is most common during the first few heat waves of the season when the weather quickly goes from cool to very hot, causing pavement to expand. This can cause slabs of pavement to push against each other, and if the pressure becomes great enough, the pavement can buckle. While it’s difficult to predict exactly when or where buckling may occur, WisDOT says some tips to keep in mind are to make sure all vehicle occupants are buckled up, watch for slowing traffic and be ready to move over for crews working to repair damaged pavement, and report any serious pavement issues by calling 911.
