03/12/2019- A big chunk of money is coming down the pipe for Marinette County’s forest roads. Governor Tony Evers has announced that 24 Wisconsin Counties are eligible for more than a quarter-million dollars in funding to maintain and improve public roads in county forests. At nearly $73000- the largest portion of that allocation will be given to Marinette County, who has 234 of the state’s total 900 miles of public forest road. Oconto County is also slated to receive just under $13000 dollars for their 37 miles of eligible roadway. The County Forest Road Aids program is administered by the Wisconsin DOT and to qualify for state funding, roads must meet minimum design standards, be located within county forests, be open and used for travel, and cannot be town roads, county, or state highways.
