Fish Sculptures Coming to Menominee

07/15/2019- Menominee will soon be the home for three large fish sculptures created by local artist Rusty Wolfe thanks to a grant sponsoring public art for economic development purposes. Economic Development Director Nancy Douglas and Wolfe briefed the Menominee County Board on the project last week. Douglas say the money comes from a private foundation with no tax dollars involved. The original grant was given to the CUPAAD organization, which decided to split the money among the six counties it serves. Menominee County’s share was $67,500, and the Menominee Business Development Corporation decided to accept it for the county. Douglas says a community-based committee decided the project should be tied to fishing, a primary tourism draw to the area and Wolfe came up with designs for three sculptures, each about 10 feet high. A walleye will be placed in the lot north of the Stephenson National Bank on 10th street. A sculpture featuring perch will be displayed on the Courthouse lawn on 10th Avenue, and a sculpture of three Brown Trout will be erected somewhere in the Marina Park area on 1st Street. The grant requires the project to be completed by the end of the year.
