09/13/2018- 85 veterans from across the Upper Peninsula will embark on a one-day journey to Washington D.C. to see the memorials built in their honor. The UP Honor Flight takes off on their fifteenth mission next Tuesday, September 18th. Scott Knauff helps organize the bi-annual event and says to-date, the UP Honor Flight has transported more than one-thousand veterans to D.C. While it may not be the first time some of these men and women have seen the national war memorials, Knauff says for many, it is the first time they fully realize the nation’s gratitude.
There’s no cost for veterans to take part in the Honor Flight and Knauff says every year, residents and businesses from across the UP step up to make sure it stays that way.
A homecoming ceremony is being planned for the veterans on next week’s UP Honor Flight. That event begins at 6:00 PM Eastern at the Delta County Airport in Escanaba.
