Lack of Supervision at Yard Waste Disposal Site Concerns Some City Officials
05/06/2019- With the return of spring comes the return of yard work and one Menominee committee is looking at ways to solve some issues that have arisen at the city’s yard waste disposal site. Last week, the Public Safety/Public Works Committee discussed the need for increased monitoring at the site behind City Hall to ensure it’s only Menominee residents utilizing it and the only thing being dropped off is yard waste and debris. Mayor Jean Stegeman says a lack of oversight could be driving up costs for the city.
Committee Chairperson Doug Robinson says rather than deal with the issues at the drop-off site, he’d prefer to cut out the middle man and instead see residents bring their yard waste directly to the landfill on 56th Avenue.
City Manager Tony Graff plans to develop a strategy and related costs to scale back the hours of operation and provide supervisory staff at the yard waste disposal site and will present those to the PSPW Committee at their next meeting.
