Local Artist Completes New Project for Marinette
07/24/2019- A 36-foot sculpture could soon grace the corner of Ely and Main Streets in Marinette. The project started about three years ago as a collaboration between the City of Marinette and local artist Jim LaMalfa. LaMalfa says it will be the tallest piece of public art in the Twin Cities and commemorates the region’s heritage, as well as current endeavors.
The Board of Public Works recently reviewed a pair of bids from MJB Industries to complete the new artwork project. The first was to form a concrete base at the installation site and came in at about $5300. The second bid was to assemble and install the sculpture, which would cost the city $5600 Both bids were unanimously approved.
