Lockheed Martin is awarded a $450-million contract to be gin the detail design and planning work for the construction of four ships for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Naval Forces at Fincantieri Marinette Marine. According to a release from Lockheed Martin, the KSA will acquire four Multi-Mission Surface Combatants as part of a larger agreement between the United States and KSA. In March, Lockheed Martin was awarded a $481-million contract for long lead material for these MMSCs, while the newest contract will provide other material, detail design, casting, and construction planning necessary to achieve the overall production plan for the ships. The first MMSC is expected to go into production at Marinette Marine in the second half of FY 2019 and all four ships are expected to be complete by 2025.
