Marinette County Share Academy to Open Soon

10/12/2018- The facility to rehabilitate local at-risk teens could reopen by the end of the year. Crossroads was previously run by the Group Home Association but was closed and the residents relocated when Group Home backed out of the facility earlier this year. Now, the county is working with a new care agency, Advocates for Healthy Transitional Living, to reopen the home as the Share Academy and bring those much-needed services back to the area. Robin Elsner, Marinette County Health and Human Services Director says Advocates is in the process of applying for their Group Home License from the state and he is hopeful the Share Academy could begin accepting residents by December
Elsner anticipates at least five of the maximum eight beds at the Share Academy will be filled upon opening. Currently, the county is paying to house these teens at much more costly secure detention or shelter care facilities.
The County purchased the former Crossroads building from the Group Home Association in June. A lease agreement for the building between Marinette County and Advocates for Healthy Transitional Living is expected to be considered by the Health and Human Services Board next month.
