Marinette School District Releases Results of Community Right-Sizing Survey
05/21/2020- A majority of Marinette School District residents and staff responding to a community survey on facility options for Marinette Schools indicated that they would support a plan to consolidate operations to serve the district’s students in fewer buildings. The survey was conducted by an independent research firm this spring and mailed to district residents as the latest step in the district’s yearlong effort to identify right-sizing options in the face of declining enrollment. Of those respondents, most supported a proposal to consolidate district operations from the current six school buildings into four school buildings. The survey also found that most of the residents completing the survey would likely support a $31 million referendum plan to finance that 4-building consolidation. The three-school option would effectively close locations at Garfield, Merryman, and Sunrise schools, while the four-building plan would shut down just Garfield and Sunrise. The Marinette School Board will hold a workshop in the coming weeks to review the survey results, facility study and other information and the board expects to select which option to move forward with, if any, at its June or July meeting.
