Menominee Considering Seasonal Help at Yard Waste Site

10/14/2019- Discussions continue in Menominee regarding operations at the City’s yard waste disposal site and what kind of new oversight might be necessary moving forward. Several officials have voiced their concerns about non-residents frequenting the site to dump their yard debris, which leads to more waste and higher costs for the City. Mayor Jean Stegeman suggested at a Public Safety/ Public Works Committee meeting last week it may be time for Menominee to start seriously considering bringing someone on board to monitor the site to ensure the only people using it are those who are permitted to.
“I’m not suggesting we charge our residents, but we need to develop a plan because that’s a free-for-all over there. We need to determine who is responsible for promptly opening the gates and closing them so you don’t have overnight drop-offs. And, when we determine the hours, we’re going to have to have some sort of seasonal help checking IDs.”
City Manager Tony Graff will look into the budgetary impact of hiring seasonal employees for the yard waste disposal site. He’s expected to bring those figures to the December PS/PW meeting.
