Michigan State Police Respond to Driver in Distress
A Menominee woman was found safe after travelling nearly nine miles on foot in frigid temperatures. Michigan State Police report Marquette County Central Dispatch received a call Thursday from a Republic resident stating her 69-year-old sister was travelling from Menominee to Republic when she took a wrong turn and got her vehicle stuck in a snowbank. The caller said her sister stayed with the car until it ran out of gas and had then begun walking to stay warm. Troopers from the Negaunee Post were able to approximate the lost woman’s location by pinging her cellphone and eventually found the abandoned vehicle. Footprints could be seen in the snow and after further searching, troopers found the woman about nine miles away. She had located a mail delivery driver and was seated in their vehicle trying to warm up. Temperatures were hovering around zero at the time. The woman refused medical treatment and was later transported to her sister’s residence in Republic.
