10/09/2019- The Wisconsin State Representative from our area is responding to a new report by the DNR which includes local waterways as some of the most heavily contaminated by PFAS compounds in the state. Representative John Nygren says information in the report further supports his Assembly Bill 323 which would generally prohibit the use and test of Class B firefighting foams containing PFAS, except in emergency firefighting operations or by pre-determined DNR guidelines. While the presence of PFAS was recorded at the highest levels in creeks in Monroe and Dane Counties, the compounds were also detected during sampling efforts of the Menominee River.
US Senator Tammy Baldwin also issued a statement following this week’s report urging the CDC and EPA to work together- and work harder- on research to determine just how PFAS chemicals harm human health and establish state standards to protect Wisconsin residents from exposure.
