Proposed Upgrades at Menekaunee Harbor
More public amenities could be coming to the Menekaunee Harbor. Pete Kolaszewski with Ayres Associates presented a plan to Marinette’s Board of Public Works Tuesday that would create a plaza space just north of the harbor’s transient docks and include an open-air pavilion, bench seating, picnic tables, and green space. City Engineer Brian Miller says he’s received word the city is set to receive grant funding for the project, so he’s already sought bids in order to award the contract as soon as the funds come in. The lowest bid for the work came from Barley Construction at a cost of around $344-thousand. Miller says alternates to the project could involve creating a separate pavilion in the South Harbor area. The money for this work would not be covered by the grant, but the funds are available in a TIF account. The low bid for the South Harbor work came in at $102-thousand. A motion to accept both bids contingent upon receiving the grant funding was unanimously approved.
