Redevelopment of Former Shopko Building Introduced
10/03/2019- It’s been less than six months since the Marinette Shopko store shut down, but there’s already a proposal in the works to bring new life to the now-vacant building. Tom Moyle is a Houghton resident, but he’s no stranger to the M&M area. He’s the owner of Moyle Construction- the company that built the Country Inn and Suites, Independence Stay, and Maritime Center of Excellence in Marinette, as well as Menominee’s Harbors facility. Now, he’s eyeing the former Shopko property for redevelopment. His plan is to use the front of the building for retail space while transforming the back half into indoor heated and cooled self-storage space for lease.
Marinette’s Plan Commission heard a proposal Wednesday to permit, as a conditional use, indoor climate-controlled storage facilities in a B-4 Highway Business Zoning District to allow Moyle to move forward with the project. That proposal was unanimously passed. Moyle does not yet have a timeline for the redevelopment of the Shopko property.
