04/08/2019- The courtroom was full in Menominee County Friday afternoon, but no trial was being heard. Instead, dozens gathered to see Menominee County’s new Prosecuting Attorney sworn in. Jeffrey Rogg, who’s served the last three and a half years as Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, was appointed by Circuit Court Judges Christopher Ninomiya and Mary Bagrlind and officially stepped into the lead role last week. Judge Ninomiya administered the oath to Rogg. He says after spending 15 years as a prosecutor himself, he recognizes the unique power of the position which must be exercised with a great deal of wisdom and discretion.
Rogg took the opportunity to address those in the audience personally Friday. He said he’s moving into this new position guided by the same mission statement that hangs in the US Attorney’s Office in New York City: to “do the right thing in the right way for the right reasons.”
Rogg takes over as interim Prosecuting Attorney for Bill Merkel, who stepped down after more than 20 years with Menominee County as part of settlement of a lawsuit Merkel brought against the county. Rogg will be up for re-election in November of 2020.
