Sheriff’s Department Looks to Add Recreational Patrol Officer
08/09/2018- As the recreational opportunities in Marinette County continue to increase, so, too, do the patrol and enforcement efforts by the Sheriff’s Department. At a Public Services Committee meeting Tuesday, County Administrator John Lefebvre presented a request from Sheriff Jerry Sauve to create an additional full time Deputy Sheriff position to be assigned specifically to Recreational Patrol. He says at least half the cost of the new hire’s salary and fringe benefits will be covered by the Wisconsin DNR through a reimbursement program.
Sheriff Jerry Sauve says the new Deputy Sheriff will be available to assist in major county incidents, but their primary role will be to address recreational concerns and respond to issues at local forestry sites.
The Public Services Committee unanimously approved the recommendation to create the new Deputy Sheriff position. The proposal now moves ahead for consideration by the county’s Administrative Committee.
