Sheriff’s Department Suspends Search for Missing Boater
05/01/2019- The search for the body of a man that fell into the Menominee River when his boat capsized Monday has been suspended. Marinette County Sheriff Jerry Sauve says after two days of extensive searching of the lower Menominee River, they have not located the missing fisherman, 58-year-old Benjamin Tart Jr of Iron River, Michigan. Tart is described a six-feet tall, weighing 250 pounds and wearing Carhartt type clothing. The public is asked to be aware of the situation and contact the Sheriff’s Office with any information or sighting of Tat. Sauve says they are keeping in regular contact with the victim’s family. He says they have learned new details about what caused the accident in the first place.
The other person in the boat at the time, the 21-year-old nephew of the missing man, was rescued from the water and taken to the hospital for evaluation and treatment. He’s now said to be in good physical condition.
