Tyco Provides PFAS Investigation Update

12/21/2018- There’s an update on Tyco’s local PFAS contamination investigation and cleanup efforts. In a release, the company says they’ve begun initial operation of their interim action system located on Tyco property near their Fire Technology Center and they expect the same treatment system filtering water from a second ditch running through the Northland Lutheran campus will be up and running in the next 90 days. They’ve also wrapped up Fall 2018 sampling where they re-tested 82 private drinking wells and sampled nine new wells for contamination. Of those nine, six had no detectable PFAS contamination, one had levels below the EPA’s Health Advisory level of 70 parts per trillion, and two results are still pending. Additional private drinking water well testing was also performed near Rader Road and Shore Drive with five of the six results being non-detects and the sixth result pending. Tyco continues to study long-term remediation options for impacted drinking wells, with their primary focus being municipal water.
