Tyco Says PFAS South of Study Area Didn’t Originate at FTC

03/24/2020- Following an evaluation of the groundwater in the area south of Tyco’s current boundaries of their site investigation area, the company says they have further data that the low levels of PFAS there are not a result of firefighting foam used at Tyco’s Fire Technology Center. Representatives say the types of PFAS detected in FTC-impacted groundwater have characteristics different from the PFAS detected in the Southern Area. Additionally, after reviewing the geological makeup of the area, including how ground- and surface water flows from one location to another, they maintain it’s not plausible that PFAS from the FTC could have migrated from their property to the Southern Area. Tyco, who’s taken the brunt of the blame for the local PFAS contamination issue, says they are discussing this information with the Wisconsin DNR and are hopeful the agency will begin the process to identify where this newly-identified PFAS is coming from.
