USS Wichita Commissioned in Florida
01/15/2019- The nation’s seventh Freedom-variant Littoral Combat ship enters active Navy service. LCS 13, the USS Wichita, was commissioned in Mayport, Florida last weekend. The ship, constructed locally at Fincantieri Marinette Marine, is described as highly maneuverable and adaptable and Joe DePietro, Vice President of Lockheed Martin’s Small Combatants and Ship Systems says the company remains focused on delivering these ships as quickly as possible with increasing capability and lethality. There are seven other ships in various stages of production and test at Fincantieri Marinette Marine. The next Freedom-variant ship in the class, LCS 15, the future USS Billings, is slated for delivery to the Navy this spring.
