WI & MI DNR Find No Further Evidence of CWD in Region

02/08/2019- There’s good news for hunters concerned about the spread of Chronic Wasting Disease in the region. Representatives with the Wisconsin DNR say they’ve collected and sampled at least 73 hunter-submitted deer heads since the discovery of CWD in a captive deer in Goodman last summer and to-date, all of those tests have come back negative. The DNR had issued special surveillance tags for hunters located in the ten-mile core surveillance area surrounding the location of the infected doe, however, none of those tags were filled this year. Similarly, the Michigan DNR has been sampling deer after finding CWD in a free-ranging deer in Dickinson County just four miles from the Wisconsin border in October. They, also, have had no further positive results. The agencies in both states say they’ll continue to collect and analyze deer samples throughout the coming year.
