05/15/2019- A push to expand the Menominee Regional Airport Committee fell flat at the board level last night. For several months there’s been an effort to add two new members to the advisory committee- one, an airport lease holder and the other, an airport user from the business sector. The thought was this expansion would allow for better conversation on the committee and improve the relationship between the county and airport users. However, Commissioner Larry Schei says bigger doesn’t always mean better.
Commissioner Bill Cech agrees with the concept, but not the format. He wants to see a new sub-committee formed beneath the Airport Committee that allows airport users and others to weigh in on policies and other decisions.
The motion to amend the county’s bylaws and add the two new members to the Airport Committee required a 2/3rds majority vote to pass. It ultimately failed 5 yes’ to 4 no’s.
