Broadband internet access is coming to residents in some of the most rural parts of Marinette County. The Public Service Commission of Wisconsin announced the recipients of the Broadband Expansion Grants Thursday and among those selected is Packerland Broadband, who will be given more than $210-thousand to deploy a TV White Space system to ten locations in Marinette County with poor or no existing broadband coverage. The project also involves placing a tower in the Town of Dunbar. The Marinette County Board of Supervisors previously approved partnering and entering into an agreement with Packerland Broadband to establish broadband service in portions of the county along the US Highway 141 corridor at a cost not to exceed $60-thousand in the event they received the state grant. Packerland officials say the project will utilize radio systems on ten existing towers and could impact over 4000 households and 50 businesses.
