06/17/2020- In 2015 Marinette approved the placement of concrete barricades in front of the Marinette Professional Building as a necessary security measure for the US Naval personnel working there, but five years later, what was proposed as a “temporary” addition is seeming more and more like a permanent fixture along the City’s Main Street. Marinette’s Civic Affairs Committee revisited the issue Monday, noting that while the Navy was expected to move out of the Professional Building upon the completion of the Maritime Center of Excellence, some of those personnel remain housed at the Professional Building and so, the barriers must remain, too. Committee member Doug Oitzinger says if this is going to continue to be the case, it may be time to ask Marinette Marine to come up with a redesigned option.

The Committee voted to invite officials from the local shipyard into the conversation next month to discuss any updates to the timeline for the barricades and potentially consider a more aesthetically pleasing alternative.
