Committee Debates Salary Increases for Some Elected Positions
02/18/2020- A notable bump in pay is being considered for some of Marinette County’s elected officials. The Administrative Committee reviewed a resolution setting next year’s salary for the County Clerk, Register of Deeds, and Treasurer at just over $65000. That amount would then increase by $1300 each of the next three years. However, County Board Chairman Mark Anderson suggests these positions be paid comparably to other county non-elected positions with similar duty and supervisory levels and says he wants to see the 2021 pay brought up almost 8% more to a little over $70000, with another 2% increase added in 2023.
But, while Supervisor John Guarisco says he values the work these individuals do, he sees Anderson’s proposal as too steep and too sudden.
The County’s Board of Supervisors is required to set compensation levels prior to the earliest time for filing nomination papers for the upcoming election, which means they need to be in place by April 15th. The Administrative Committee ultimately voted to postpone the item until March to allow Supervisors more time to consider.
