Committee Eyes REC Center Reopening
05/20/2020- Along with retailers, restaurants, and other businesses and organizations in Wisconsin, Marinette’s Community REC Center will soon reopen its doors to patrons. The City’s Parks and Recreation Committee met Monday to review the phased approach to restarting the Rec Department’s typical programs and events. The plan separates the various activities in tiers based on the perceived level of risk of spreading COVID-19 and also outlines additional measures staff will take to mitigate that risk. Committee member Rick Polzin says he wants to see the facility reopen, but adds that enforcing new social distancing and sanitation policies will be key.
When it comes to the City Pool, plans are less clear. There’s still no decision yet on when that will open and Committee member Ken Keller says he’s not particularly confident they should plan on opening it at all this season.
The Committee agreed to open the REC Center to the public on May 26th and begin some of the Tier 1 activities including use of the walking track, youth programming, and some sports. Programs in Tiers 2 and 3 will be reintroduced at the discretion of Rec Department administration.
