While many of the details have yet to be worked out, the restructuring of the University of Wisconsin system could mean expanded opportunities for local students. Under the new plan announced last year, U-W’s two-year campuses will merge with four-year institutions this summer. That includes UW Marinette, which will become an extension of U-W Green Bay, along with two other colleges in Manitowoc and Sheboygan. UWGBChancellor Gary Miller says students at UW-Marinette will now have access to a much wider range of degree options.
Under the merger, UWGB’s four-campus system will cover 14 counties. Miller says the current focus is on transferring the UW Colleges’ accreditation to their respective receiving universities. That process is expected to be complete this spring. UW officials are also working to implement a system that would keep the current athletic programs intact at the two-year colleges.
