Judicial District 8 Chief Judge Jim Morrison opened the Jail Overcrowding and Juvenile Justice Symposium held in Suamico last week. Participants at the event represented 12 Northeast Wisconsin Counties and discussed how to provide secure custody for juveniles. Nearly every county in the region lacks a place to house juveniles requiring short-term detention. Marinette County currently transports these individuals three hours to a juvenile facility in Sheboygan. Last week’s symposium was held as a result of an effort to create a common solution for these detention and correctional needs.
