Menominee Turns Down 3rd Ave Grant
04/17/2019- Faced with other higher priority road projects, the Menominee City Council voted Monday night to not take advantage of a Michigan Department of Transportation Grant which would have fixed three blocks of 3rd Avenue from the K&K Integrated Logistics entrance to 1st Street. KKIL is expanding their facility to accommodate a distribution facility for Johnson Controls. KKIL was looking to improve the street to give a better access to First Street for the additional employees. The grant to cover the project would be $323,000. But the city would need to contribute half that amount. Menominee Business Development Corporation Executive Director Nancy Douglas says KKIL understands the City Council’s concerns
Alderperson Josh Jones was among the council members saying there are higher road priorities.
The council unanimously voted to not pursue the grant.
