The vote to approve a new engineering degree at UW-Green Bay is receiving praise from a local lawmaker who championed the cause. Representative John Nygren of Marinette says the decision by the Board of Regents to create a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering program at UWGB will assist in meeting the growing demand for workers in engineering in Northeastern Wisconsin and provide in-demand, family-supporting careers. The school plans to begin accepting freshman students into the program for the Fall 2018 semester. In addition to the new program, the state budget also includes funding for the Brown County Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math Innovation Center on UWGB’s campus.
