Plan Commission Hears Request to Re-Zone Interim Action System Site

02/07/2019- There’s another hurdle in Tyco’s plan to place a water filtration system in a ditch on Marinette’s Northland Lutheran Retirement Community property. The company previously sought a conditional use permit for the installation of an interim action system on a parcel of land that was believed to have been zoned multiple family residential. However, upon closer inspection, it was determined the site location is actually on a pair of lots on Northland Terrace Estates property zoned single family residential, meaning the City’s Plan Commission would need to approve re-zoning that area as multi-family before the conditional use permit could be considered. While the Commission did just that Wednesday, the proposal to locate the filtration system there has been met with resistance all along. Several residents have voiced concerns about the system creating a public nuisance, but Ben Verberg with Arcadis says the identified site will allow the removal of as much PFAS contamination from the surface water in the ditch as possible.
The request to re-zone the interim action system site will go to a public hearing on March 5th. The Plan Commission is expected to review the site plan in its entirety at their meeting March 6th.
